US court kills Limewire

Postby Tiger Sora » Wed Oct 27, 2010 10:03 pm

In case you haven't heard, a US court made it's ruling and has shut down the Peer to Peer file sharing site. The music industry, the 4 largest recorders representing sued and they won. So no more free music, or anything. And I wanted to download some more music today too.

The thing that really pisses me off was it was just some district New York judge who made the ruling. This should be a case for the supreme court shouldn't it?
Go google it if you want to read about it. Damn shame.

GOOD LORD, YOU USED LIMEWIRE?
Warning, Rant
Seriously, the worst fucking P2P program I have ever seen, I once tested it on a brand new Windows install, only it, AVG, Avira, Spybot S&D, and HijackThis installed, and just left it on, no downloading. I got 4 viruses within an hour and found a 5th with Hijack.

It's security protocols are swiss cheese, the download method is outdated, and the fucking UI, GAH. You might as well go on MSN and use it's filetransfer, at least that usually won't give viruses.

If you want music, go on PirateBay or Demonoid, make sure there are at least a few good comments by people who have been there longer than the person who put it up, make sure you don't torrent any part of it that isn't an audio file, and stay away from compressed files unless the comments are all good and at least from 50 people.

I prefer Demonoid, less viruses, but you need an account to download, however registrations are usually closed. So just PM me anything you want and I'll relay the .torrents to you

I used Limewire... like 7 years ago. Everyone's moved onto torrents now (or direct downloading off sites, if you're patient). Besides, Napster and Kazaa went through this same kinda thing, being forced by the courts to shut down. They came back as subscription sites where you pay a fee to download music, I'm sure Limewire will do something similar. Meanwhile we'll all keep pirating things with other methods, same as always.

I gotta agree with Limewire sucking.
But I usually just went to Youtube, found the song, download it, then convert it to mp3.

And then I found torrents. Saved a ton of time (If the torrent was moving quickly).
Mind if I reel you along?

Limewire is the AIDS of the internet,I also left mine on for roughly an hour and was bombarded with numerous viruses and such when I got back and checked it.Even if it did come back as a subscription site,I can't imagine anyone who'd be willing to actually pay to use it. :tumble:

I'm such a digital pirate I got fuckin' scurvy.

But seriously. The pirate bay all the way. Limewire deserves to be shut down.

I view Limewire as a scapegoat. If they are still on Limewire, then they're far off from important things.

Yeah, you did.

Techie recommends backing up your files, formatting, and before accessing the backup, scan it with his list of free AV's for cleaning. If anything, shutting down P2P networks and apps assists newbie pirates, as they won't get caught up in these apps. If they really wanted to curb it, they should just be launching attacks through them, though... That might not be legal, and I'm a bit of a dick.

Interesting. Not very surprising though, now that they're beginning to clamp down on pirating software.

I agree that Limewire sucks. Never got any downloads from it to work, the bastard >:[
