Shade simply continued his sheepish grin, knowing that he probably wouldn't change her mind no matter what he said. The news that she was the last engineer stuck in the hybrid's mind; it meant that she was extremely valuable and had priority status... he stopped, turning his thoughts inward to consider why he thought like that, but nothing came to him at that moment except the answer of instinct: she was important. He shook his head, catching the tail end of Kyra's explanation of the atmosphere venting counter-measure. Shade shook his head as she made her prediction about everything being fine, Great, what a way to tempt fate...
Almost seeming to accent his thoughts came the sound of metal scraping metal as the door to the small room was pried open, revealing a young, grease-stained girl. Shade had enough time to see the girls eyes, filled with instinctive fear and reaction, pale skin drawn tightly over her firmly set bones, before she took off. Shade was already moving when Kyra called out to chase her, loping after her with long strides, but the girl was nimble and quick, weaving through the ship with the speed of a frightened rabbit. Soon, she had evaded them, losing herself in the ship as they came upon the hanging figure. Immediately, Shade stopped short, knowing something was wrong, but it wasn't until the body twisted to reveal the long gash in the man's midsection that he knew it was time to get out.
Turning, he took the assailant's strike across the face, slamming into the bulkhead with the force of the blow. Spots appeared in his vision, growing until they filled his eyes and darkness crept over his mind...
Shade stood in line of people under a glaring light that blinded him from everything beyond the light's reach, but the gruff voice that addressed them was familiar, though he couldn't recognize it off the top of his head, "You are trained for this... you will.... don't..." the voice was broken, waxing and waning in volume as Shade's eyes followed the vague shape he could see now. He squinted, trying to make it out, but the more he focused, the faster the vision began to fade... he fell into darkness...
Shade awoke with the coppery taste of blood in his mouth, groaning as he hoisted himself up, seeing the others laying beside him. The dragonfox climbed slowly to his feet, testing every major muscle and bone before applying his weight to them. Satisfied that he was ok, he scanned the room critically, swearing to himself, "Trapped like rats..." Leaping up on the table, the dragonfox pushed off, trying to reach the walkway with a flair of wings, but without running room, he could only come within a couple feet of the walkway. Turning to the others, he motioned for someone to join him, "Come on, we need to get gone before our attacker gets back, I'll give you a boost."
