My mom's thoughts about me being a furry and a question...

Postby RiskyFrisky » Tue May 12, 2009 8:41 am

My mom the other day actually told me to keep my mouth shut about being a furry and not to tell anyone(I told her no, off course). I don't know why she thinks it but she said that people like furries belong in insane asylums and that it looks bad. I know she watched the CSI and I think that's why she holds her opinion.

- But that brings up my question, do you think we belong in insane asylums for our love of anthropomorphic characters and taking it to the extremes, I mean hell, we wish we could be them, have sex with them a lot of the times, but as I hope, a lot of us still know we are humans and have interests in male, females or both of the human populations of planet "Earth"
Your gonna eat me :D Your really gonna eat me :D Yep you are...dang D:

Erm why would we belong in mental asylms? I'm sure everyone at some point wishes they were something else, has sex fantasies, etc, so why single out one set of interests as being wrong?

Not really any worse than any other sex fantasy, IMO. Better than a fair few, in fact. But that's just my two cents, I guess.

People who don't know anything else about furries only have an impression from what the media tells them. In order to set them straight, you'll have to give them reason to think that initial impression is wrong.

Like Shining said, it's no different than any other fetish or sexual fantasy. The reason people don't like furries or think they "belong in mental institutions" is that we've taken this sexual fantasy and turned it into a whole community and lifestyle. We dress up and imagine ourselves as these animal-people, we draw each other as them, we write about them, we go to conventions and all this other stuff, and the common misconception is that it's all for a sexual fetish (nevermind the people who just enjoy anthropomorphism as an art style or just enjoy the people in the community, I suppose).

Oh yeah! What QD said. I don't come into the whole 'fetish' thing, though.

If furries need to go into an Insane Asylem for wanting to pretend to be animal people, than all the WOW players do as well for pretending to be middevil hero's.

I'm familure with it, but the only LARP I've ever done is airsoft reinactments of WWII battles.

It's sickening the negative stereotypes out there.

And this is why you all are trolled XD.

Forget about it. Really.

No offence, but I don't think it has much to do with the CSI episode... I really don't get how it'd make it all bad.

I don't really see this as a sexual thing. I just see it as combining the beauty of the human body with the abilities and looks of an animal. Being human, and having wings for example.

If you see it sexually, that's ok with me. It's your fetish. I mean, that's the only real sterotype there is. That it's a fetish, and not a desire or hobby. Really, if that wasn't so prevailient (eg: the numerous yiff comments that pop up everywhere some how) it wouldn't have been focused on that. People like seeing fail, and the media delivers. What better way than showing people wanting to screw animals? it's considered inhuman, and therefore, fail.

Yeah. Stop making it an issue and just blow it off. I have a friend who jokes about it with me, and I can blow it off. There are people who make it an issue, I blow them off. It's not that hard. Your mom says they should go in institutions, it's her belief. It's when one argues against anothers belief that fights and arguements start.

I think because that people might find a bit unnatural, I do keep my mouth shut, and I keep it to myself since noone that I know of is interested in furries.

This is what gets me. People yell about things like racism and then do some thiing similar. i'm not calling furry aficionados a different race, but it so close to it that people need to get over it.

I hate the stereotype that Hollywood has created for furries. It really makes me sad. :(
