Holy crap, a teacher! I've had several teachers like Mr. Lewis; one made fun of literally everybody and is the kind of person who would say the fits of joy line (though he would probably make a sci-fi reference... my teachers are nerds). Also, Ashley reenters the comic.
As to Campy/Bruce, Bruce is just worried about losing his friend, and Campy happens to be spending time with somebody other than him is an unknown territory for him (We know that they grew up next door to each other, so they've probably been friends since toddlerdom... would it be Cubdom? Cubhood? Puppyhood? Or does that only work for canids?). It's understandable that he's trying to get Campy to give up his date so he can hang out with Bruce (or he's honestly trying to figure out why Campy wants to hang out with Connor more than Bruce). The fact that the other person is a guy is just another log on the pile, both because of Max's... odd way of conversing with his son about his dates, and because it means there less separation between the date and Bruce (it'd probably be easier to cope with Campy dating a girl, though I'm not too sure).
Campy and Bruce have been best friends since the dawn of time, and Campy has found somebody else he'd rather hang out with. This is new territory for Bruce, and he doesn't like it. It isn't homophobia, it's simply the fact that Bruce is a teenager... and somewhat late maturing one at that.
Also, Bruce is still Bruce, and very selfish at times.
