“I think I’m hallucinating...” Vanessa said, staring wide-eyed into the empty space in front of her. The controller in her hands wasn’t getting any use in any case.
The male to her right laughed. “And I suppose that the excuse you’re using to excuse yourself from getting your ass handed to you, Van? You know you’re not going to win, so you’re not even gonna try, is that it?”
Vanessa glanced over the three males in her room --her friends, the giant panda Ryan Liao, human Nicholas Graves, and her brother, Tobias-- her expression never once changing. Directly above their heads were translucent green ‘tabs’, complete with name, level, buffs/debuffs, and health bar. In addition, she could see her own statistics in the corners of her vision; like her very own weird HUD as if in some crazyass real-time RPG.
“Dudes, I
TOTALLY think I’m hallucinating...”
“Probably shouldn’t have touched the roast beef at lunch. I swear I saw it move…” the human chimed in from down on the floor, only half-jokingly. Were he smaller, he’d probably fit up on the bed with the other three. Alas, Nick was a sturdy, muscular 6’6” and a solid 205 lbs. “Anyways, snap out of it, Van, and don’t pay any attention to Ryan! I need you on my team to take these two bastards down a peg.”
“I swatted a mosquito today,” Van stated blankly, “and the lil’ bastard burst into $2.15 and a magic fire ring...” Still, the vixen complied, selecting her character while the others laughed at her ‘joke’, despite not fully coming to her senses.
// NICHOLAS GRAVES JOINED THE PARTY //
Van had to let herself do a double-take after those words flashed right before her eyes, complete with an announcer reiterating the phrase word-by-word. She forced herself to glance around... everything appeared to be normal, of what would be considered as 'normal' about five minutes ago. Only difference was that Nick's tab was now blue and slightly more detailed; adding a mana gauge under his health bar and adding HP/MP numericals to say the least.
Nick, to his credit, also acted as though something was off... "Guys, I think I'm hallucinating..."
"Really, Nick?" Van's brother, Tobias, said, shaking his head disapprovingly. "Using the same excuse as my sis? Show some class, man! If you don't think you have a chance, then just say it."
This made Van and Nick look at each other. They locked eyes for a good while before jetting out of the bedroom and down the hall. Vanessa was the first to voice her inquiry of the other...
"Are you seeing what I'm seeing?"
"Depends, what are you seeing?"
"Just tell me!"
"I asked you first!"
"No you didn't!"
"Well, you were hallucinating first!"
"Alright! Alright, fine!" Van inhaled deeply, collecting herself while she gestured around with her hands, trying to figure out what exactly to say. "Does it look like you're... living... in a video... game...?"
Nick just stared at her, his face frozen and expressionless. "You're level one and have 600 HP, 200 MP, 30 attack, and your current armor rating is 12."
And then it struck home...
