Deadlines

Postby Anonymous G » Sat Aug 07, 2010 9:17 pm

Moran pulled a cigarette from the safety of its pack and lit it up. The other officers and forensic team, either too busy with their work, or simply just not interested enough to tell him to stop worked feverishly as they searched for evidence. The giant of a man sighed before taking a drag, he had been interviewing people all morning. Not a lot of it very revealing, but at least it was something to work on. So far, the weapon had not been discovered yet, and perhaps was still in the hotel. An intern entered the room and immediately made his way to the police investigator. "Sir, the detectives have arrived." He informed him. Moran sighed once more.

"Freakin' vultures, every last one of them..." He muttered. The intern gave him a look, before responding.

"Sir, you shouldn't be smoking at the-"

"Shaddup you!" Moran snapped, leaving to greet the not-so-welcomed PIs. He quickly made his way out to the front lobby to find a bunch of detectives of all sorts waiting for him. "This ain't no field-trip, so unless you all are going to pull some weight around her, I suggest packing up and leaving."

Choices
1. Follow Moran to the crime scene.
2 Follow Moran to the crime scene. (I'm not really giving you a choice here.)

Nehra stood a second before following suit.
The blackened lips of the investigator showed he was a smoker
Nehra didn't like the thought of smoking very much... Mainly after having seen the lungs of dead smokers
the pros and cons of being a former autopsy surgeon.

She followed Moran.
In transit, a question formed.
"So, what's the information you've obtained so far, investigator?"

As he led the investigators to the Owner's office (Gen. office, first floor), he offered the lowdown. "As you should have been briefed already, the owner of this cheeky establishment, Marc Savvy, was murdered this morning, we pinned the time of death to be about around 12:32 AM." As they reached the office, they avoided several police officers and science team members as they moved about the crime scene. They arrived to see someone taking photos of the corpse which was slumped over in a chair in the far corner. There, several lacerations in the chest could be seen, a trail of blood could be seen leading out of the room, but it went no farther. The trail itself seemed not enough blood to suggest that the body had been dragged across. Before they could examine the body further, a investigator hurried in front of them and snapped a photo of the body.

***Photo of corpse added to everyone's evidence inventory. The corpse of Marc Savvy could be seen slumped in a chair with lacerations possibly from a knife present in his chest.***

"We have locked down the hotel, and are still interviewing guests. Oddly enough, there doesn't seem to be anything stolen from this room. There wasn't any evidence of the suspect attempting to open the safe either." Moran told the investigators. "I suggest you guys start interviewing the staff or guests, perhaps you can get some things out of the that we couldn't."

Riley had been pacing around the room, pensively thinking about the details given to him and trying to formulate anything that could be of use to him. Just because he was young didn't mean he would let himself be outdone. He was about to leave the room after Moran had given them their leave, but before he did, something he turned around and approached the detective.

"Officer Moran? Before I leave, would you mind telling me who reported the crime?"

Moran looked at the pacing investigator, "The head servant and cook, Douglas Jenkins. He can be located in the kitchen, overseeing today's meal. In fact, you might be able to catch some of the guests in the dining room."

Nehra stood up straighter
"is there evidence of a struggle? On the body I mean? Stuff under fingernails or things on the body that may be of anothers possession?"

Moran looked back at the investigator from before, "We don't have all of the facts yet, but I would say that if there was a struggle, it happened somewhere else in the hotel. Nothing in this room was taken, disturbed, or otherwise handled, like I said earlier." He looked at the body, "Until we get this analyzed, there's not much I can tell you right now." The other police detectives and officers scrambled in and out of the scene. "I'll probably have more to offer later today."

"Thanks again Officer Moran!"

Riley turned and and thinking fr a bit decided he would start with that man. He decided to go through the back, passing the store room, and heading into the kitchen. Peeking inside, he spotted the chef going about his duties. Knocking quietly to call attention to himself, he approached the man he guessed was Mr. Jenkins.

"Uh, sir? I'm one of the detectives in this case. Since you were the one that reported the body, I guessed I might as well start with you. Would you mind telling me any details surrounding the death of Mr. Savvy?"

"Sure... is there anything specific you had in mind?" Jenkins asked. He seemed rather calm for someone that had just discovered a dead body.

Nehra was interested in checking the kitchen for knives

She used a ruler she kept to judge the deepest penetration, noted it, and headed to the kitchen to check.

For all she knew, the perp may have killed with one thing, and used a knife to
1: ensure death
2: Get the chef to be on the top of the list. The chef had access to the knives.

before she left, she turned to the investigator
"Inspector, can you ask the people processing the body to check for poisons and internal damage?"

When she got to the kitchen, she was surprised to find another inspector already there

She also caught a snippet of the conversation
"Erm... have any of your knives gone missing?"

Riley paused a for a few seconds to let his thoughts condense before he asked his questions. Looking sternly at the chef, he began his questions.

"Well, you see, I was wondering when exactly did you find body? Did you have any business with Mr. Savvy to have gone into his office? And, what kind of a man was Mr. Savvy?"

One of the cooks piped up from their stoves, "No! Not that I can see, officer!" He had to raise his voice over the hiss of the stove top. The aroma of eggs and bacon filled the room.

"I discovered the body at 12:30-ish... I always have to report to Mr. Savvy at the end of the day." The lead butler was distracted by the job at hand. "He was a strict employer, but the kind of guy that would have a drink with you... carry a conversation, that sort of thing. I always figured that if I didn't work for him, we would have been friends." Jenkins helped with the food for a second, before adding, "His wife wouldn't be too devastated, I'm sure."

Nehra rose an eyebrow
"12:30ish? AM or PM? Either way, did you see anyone move out of the office... or know if someone entered for an appointment?... better yet, did your boss own an appointment book?"
She was sure it was AM, considering it was the "end of the day"

Nehra double checked herself, though. The man couldn't have been 100% accurate. When there were inspectors and a dead man, a person could be wrong from stress

The lead gave a flustered look when Nehra asked if it was AM or PM. "AM, of course..." He corrected himself, at last it started to look like being a prime suspect was bothering him. "... And yes, his wife had the ledger last... she handled most of his affairs." Jenkins admitted, looking to help with the cooking and orders.

Riley smiled as Nehra joined him. Looking again at the lead butler, and asked,

"Did Mr. Savvy have any known problems with his wife? Why do you think she wouldn't be too devastated at her husbands death?"
